THE DETAILS

How it works.
What to expect, start to finish.

Upper eyelid surgery removes the fold of skin that weighs on the lashes; lower eyelid surgery repositions the fat that creates bags and hollows. Most upper-lid cases take an hour under local anesthetic with light sedation, and bruising is gone within ten days.

Ideal for
  • Hooded upper lids
  • Under-eye bags
  • Tired-looking eyes

Your visit, step by step

  1. Before

A consultation with an eye examination and photographs, plus a vision check if lower lids are planned.

  2. During

One to two hours under local anesthetic with sedation; incisions sit in the natural crease or inside the lid.

  3. After

Cold compresses for 48 hours, sutures out at a week, contact lenses again at two weeks.

Official information

Good to know.

Will people notice?

They notice you look rested; the incisions sit in the eyelid crease and fade quickly.

Is it done under general anesthesia?

Upper lids are usually done under local anesthetic with light sedation; combined upper and lower cases may use general anesthesia.

Questions worth bringing.

  • What should an individual assessment clarify before I consider eyelid surgery?
  • How will the surgeon assess my health, goals and suitability, including alternatives to surgery?
  • Who provides anesthesia, where would surgery take place and how are complications and follow-up handled?
