Report language is changing

Natural and laboratory-grown stones compared with clear disclosure, current report language and thoughtful design.

THE DEVELOPMENT

GIA introduced descriptive Premium and Standard assessments for D-to-Z laboratory-grown diamonds in October 2025.

What this changes.

WHAT WE DO ABOUT IT

We use the language on the actual current report, label older examples by date and never present different labs’ systems as interchangeable.

Our reading of the reference above. What suits you is decided in person, when we meet.

The approaches behind the conversation.

Each reference below has its own mechanism, scope and official source, so we never treat them as interchangeable.

Diamonds and gemstones

The stone comparison appointment

We compare stones in consistent lighting with their documents beside them. GIA’s report descriptions distinguish identification, treatments and origin opinions; its updated D-to-Z laboratory-grown assessment uses different terminology from natural-diamond grading.

  • Natural or laboratory-grown identity stated explicitly
  • Report type and issue date checked for the actual stone
  • Proportions, color, care and intended wear discussed

Custom design

From pencil line to wax model

A commission moves through sketch, CAD review and a physical model before manufacturing approval. Stuller’s CAD/CAM services show how a jeweler can begin with a sketch, a digital file or a customizable style.

  • Stone dimensions and setting height considered early
  • Design revisions and approval milestones in writing
  • Metal, finishing, production time and care scope itemized

Redesign and care

The heirloom, reimagined

We start with an assessment of the existing piece and the parts of the story that must survive. Digital design tools help us visualize a new setting, while our jeweler separately determines which stones and materials can be reused.

  • Photographic intake and condition record
  • Old setting, new proportions and wearability compared
  • Reuse feasibility, losses and returned materials agreed
